This article examines the dynamics of the development of socio-philosophical ideas about the social essence of women and its impact on the normativity of their social roles. The author investigated a number of factors that had both a positive and negative impact on the process of achieving equality of rights of individuals regardless of their gender, one of which is feminism. Using the example of Sweden, the influence of the latter on the legislation of a modern European state was considered. Since the purpose of this study is to study the doctrinal views on the social essence of women in their dynamics, the historical and genetic method played a special role in the framework of the methodology of the work. The relevance of the research is determined by the fact that feminism, the emergence of which as a social movement can be attributed to the period of the Great French Revolution, has not disappeared after more than 200 years, but on the contrary is a factor in world politics. Activists of feminist organizations define the achievement of equality of individuals, regardless of their gender identity, as the goal of their activities.
