This article contains a comparative study of Chinese and Russian decorative and applied arts: embroidery, wood carvings, paper carvings, casting figures from burnt sugar. Conclusions are drawn: there are few similarities, but there are points of contact: art reflects the closeness of peoples to their native nature, the ability to see the beauty around them, the talent and inexhaustible imagination of people. In the process of decorative and applied art, a person acts as a subject of art perception, while at the same time being an object of its influence. The ultimate goal of the process of perceiving a work of art should be considered the formation of a person as an individual. Activities in the field of decorative and applied arts seem to us to be a system consisting of three elements: the artist’s creativity, products of creativity or art, and artistic perception. At the same time, understanding the language of art is especially significant, since art may not fulfill its educational role if a person does not know how to see, feel and understand beauty; without developed visual perception, the formation of artistic taste is impossible.
