American journalism catastrophes in the beginning of the XXI century

In the system of American media, disaster journalism occupies an important place and is especially in demand among the mass audience. At the same time, the publications have different approaches to covering the same events, the purpose of the journalist may be to inform the audience, or a resonant story will be an occasion to increase profits. What, how and when do the media report during emergencies? What role can they play in the process of emergency response and can the media have a negative impact in one way or another? Here are the main questions, the answers to which modern researchers have not yet found. This article discusses the process of development of journalism disasters (emergency journalism) in the early 21st century. The article describes the approach of traditional media to the coverage of natural risks in the United States, criticism of this approach and the features of disaster journalism. The causes of "fake news" are considered. The author's position on the topic under consideration is described.
