Peculiarities of using language means in speech characteristics of characters of Sidney Sheldon’s novels

The article considers the peculiarities of the use of linguistic means while characterizing speech behavior of the characters of S. Sheldon's works and the ways of their representation in the original texts (free indirect discourse, the techniques of contrast and analogy, speech game). Using the method of analysis of a lexical-semantic field ‘success’ and its periphery fields ‘power’, ’game’ and ’revenge’, the author shows the relationship between the lexical-semantic field ‘success’ and concept ‘life’ for a successful image of Americans in the works of S. Sheldon.
