The semantic and syntactical analysis of the subordinately complicated sentences with adjectival structures

Nikolaeva Tatiana Gennad’evna  (Candidate of Sciences (Philology), Associate Professor, Samara State University of Social Sciences and Education, Samara, Russia)

The article is devoted to the analysis of both semantic and syntactical features of the subordinately complicated sentences with adjectival structures. The included predicate in such sentences is expressed by adjectives in the functions of an attribute and a predicative attribute as of two kinds of the independent detached structures. The similarity of the adjectives and the verbs both in a functional and in a semantic aspect is shown. Besides, the interconnection of the attributive and the predicative meanings is revealed. It is proved that the reason of the realization of the predicative potential of the detached attribute is the transposition of the predication into the sphere of the determination. The analysis of the empirical data is given on the base of a number of categorical type of the semantic predicate of the matrix sentence: static or dynamic character, the abstractness from the progression in time; absoluteness or relativity; active or non-active nature. It was concluded that the general type of a macro-situation depends on the semantic characteristics of the predicates. The results of the research make contribution to the semantic analysis of the English sentence and to the semantic syntax in the whole.

Keywords:included predicate, adjectival complicating structures, attributive semantics, complicator, predicativity, matrix sentence.
