Pleasure and joy as units of emotive language

Linguistics investigates language mechanisms denoting emotions. Their differentiation is observed through their nature or through the development of the outer expression. Positive emotional state appears on the basis of satisfaction from favorite activity, from the joy when the desirable aim is reached. People’s emotions are represented in the fiction much more colorful. Linguistic observation and stylistic analysis of O. Henry stories from the cycle «The Gentle Grafter» (1908) demonstrates the high degree of emotiveness both the personages and the narration itself. Priority belongs to the positive emotions – pleasure and joy – regardless the diversity of examples implying the fundamental ones.
