Popular scientific text in teaching Russian as a foreign language in medical higher education institution

This article describes the features of popular scientific style and its texts. Characteristics of popular scientific magazines for different readership are analyzed, and the rationale for using popular scientific texts in teaching Russian as a foreign language in medical higher education institution is explained. The author proposes an algorithm for using this kind of texts in teaching Russian to foreign students at B1 level or higher. The algorithm includes pre-textual, textual and post-textual exercises for developing language and communicative competence. Reading such texts can be both used in teacher-led classroom activities and as individual tasks for learners.
