Media content analysis as a method of journalistic research

This paper discusses the specifics of using media content analysis as a research method in journalism. In particular, various definitions of the term “content analysis” are presented. The article contains a detailed description of the possibilities realized through the use of the method in journalistic research. It also presents the factors that must be observed when conducting content analysis of the media. The basic terms of content analysis have been studied in detail: categories of analysis, signs of analysis, unit of analysis, and unit of account. The article analyzes the main directions of journalistic research in the framework of this method: self-reflection and the study of sources for the creation of new publications. The work resulted in conclusions about the strengths and weaknesses of the method.
