the subject of the study are the main directions and priorities of state policy in the field of social and humanitarian education in higher education. The object of the study is the state educational policy. The authors consider in detail the peculiarities of state administration of the higher school of the USSR in the 1960s-1970s. In this regard, special attention is paid to party and government documents regulating the activities of Soviet universities. The priority is given to social and humanitarian education and its role in shaping the world outlook of young people. Existing forms of obtaining higher education, the peculiarities of the formation of a contingent of students and faculty are considered. The methodological basis of the research is made up of the principles of historicism, scientific objectivity, systemic and complex nature, which allow us to study the priorities of state policy in the field of social and humanitarian education in higher education. The main findings of the study are the features of the state educational policy in the field of social and humanitarian education in higher education in the period under study. A special contribution of the authors to the study of the topic is a comprehensive analysis of the tasks, directions, priorities and results of public policy in higher education. The novelty of the study is a rethinking of the conceptual foundations, trends and key directions of the state policy of the USSR in the field of social and humanitarian education in higher education in the 1960s-1970s.
