Modality: lexical level (by the example of English analytical articles)

In English linguistic tradition texts from “editorial”, “comment”, “leader”, “opinion”, “cover story” sections refer to the genre “analytical article”. Analytical article is an objective genre, which contributes to the informational function having a leading position in it. The influencing function tends to vanish. However political discourse which has manipulative nature brings the influencing function as well as the subjectivity of the text to the force. Both functions are carried out through the implementation of subjective and objective modality. According to our analysis 69,5% of all means of subjective modality realization are lexical. Such rate can be considered as high for such an objective genre as analytical article and can be explained by the influence of political discourse.
