The process of unification of Germany in the memoirs of contemporaries

The author of the article analyzed the memoirs of such political leaders as US President G. Bush, German Chancellor G. Kohl, British Prime Minister M. Thatcher on the one hand. On the other - the Secretary General of the CPSU, the President of the USSR M.S. Gorbachev, his assistant in international affairs A.S. Chernyaeva, Soviet diplomats V.M. Falin and Yu.A. Kvitsinsky, who assessed the prerequisites and reasons for German unification, the possible risks and consequences of fundamental changes in the center of Europe and the relevance of these changes to the geopolitical interests of all countries concerned.
