Features of the translation techniques of English phraseological units with the semantic color component

The article examines the specifics of the translation of English phraseological units with the semantic color component. In particular, it is noted that color plays an important role in the subject’s assessment of the surrounding reality, since it is associated with certain associations: so, in English and Russian, the use of certain colors in a figurative, idiomatic sense is associated with historical, social, ethnic, and linguocultural features. Based on the analysis conducted, the author claims that idioms with a color nomination can be translated both word for word and with certain changes in their structure and meaning, which affects the choice of the translation techniques. Among the main techniques there are: equivalent, descriptive, antonymic, tracing and other translations.
