Written communication and written speech in Russian scholarly research and education system: theoretical, methodological and didactic aspects

The article considers the concepts of writing, written speech and written communication and the way these competencies are treated in the works of Russian researchers reflecting different perspectives, including the psycholinguistic, competency-based, cognitive-discursive, and business-oriented approaches. The author draws attention to major differences in the way Russian researchers understand the content, structure, role and functions of written competencies, concluding that the absence of a common conceptual framework entails a lack of continuity and consistency in the way these competencies are taught at different levels of education and within different disciplines.
