Tereshko Ekaterina Vladimirovna  (Applicant, Saint Petersburg State University; Teaching Fellow, Lomonosov Moscow State University )

The article is written in the context of cultural linguistics and is a review of Dutch phraseological units containing false zoonyms, the etymological analysis of which shows the lack of connection of these words with the names of animals. At the same time, the false zoonyms coincide in form with the zoonyms of the Dutch language. Phraseological units with false zoonyms are divided into two groups according to the origin of the figurative base of these units. In the first case, the zoonym is metaphorically reinterpreted and used to name any object other than an animal, and with this meaning is included in a phraseological unit. In the second case, the word homonymous with a Dutch name of an animal can be borrowed from any other language. The article provides examples of phraseological units with false zoonyms, reveals their meaning and explains the origin.
