Higher historical education in the Far East of Russia in the pre-Soviet period

The article concentrates on the analysis of the formation of higher historical education in the Russian Far East in the pre-Soviet period. Each period of the functioning of higher education in our country introduced its specifics into the process of preparing historians related to the destiny of Russian society in general. One of the most important stages of this process is the time period from 1918 to 1923. The author made an attempt to fill in the gaps existing today in the study of historical education in the Far East at the beginning of the 20th century, because despite all the difficulties of that time, a worthful educational process was carried out in the field of historical education. The foundation was created in the region for modern higher historical education - the comprehensive training of professional historians in higher educational institutions. The article describes the features of the development of historical education in the Far Eastern higher education, reveals their connection with the stages of development of higher education in Russia in whole, shows the influence of changes in public policy. The chronological framework covers the pre-Soviet period of higher historical development in the region. The lower border is determined by the date of founding in the Far East of the first institution of higher education, which provided training for professional historians - the historical and philological faculty (opened in Vladivostok in 1918). The upper chronological framework of the work is associated with the closure of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the State Far Eastern University. In the context of the historical experience of the development of the Far East, the pre-Soviet model of historical education is analyzed. The article is of interest to historians, researchers, students and all those interested in the history of higher education in Russia.
