Style-forming functions of synonymous series of qualitative adjectives in the literary text

The article considers the use of synonymous series of qualitative adjectives in the text of works of modern fiction. Their functions in the text – descriptive, amplifying, emotional-pictorial, gradual are revealed. The formation with their help and on their basis of such figurative and expressive means as epithets, gradation, metaphor, antithesis, hyperbole, irony, oxymoron is noted. The significant role of contextual synonyms in the literary text is emphasized.
