Revisiting the problem of the structure of language representation of the event as a fragment of the linguistic world view

The article examines the problem of representation of the image of reality and its formation in collective consciousness of people, which is relevant to the study of the language of mass media. The paper places the emphasis on the event as a fragment of the linguistic world view, describes the modern approaches to the definition of this concept in linguistics, as well as a number of event cognitive models. The paper identifies the peculiarities of the event as a method of conceptualization of reality. On the basis of the theoretical statements and the analysis of language material, the author suggests her own model of the structure of the event, the components of which can be differentiated depending on the completeness of the information required to narrate a past event. The model contains three groups of components. The first group, which is the main one, is made up of elements that reflect the minimum knowledge of the event – the name of the event, its time and place. The second group includes additional components that reflect some details of the event – its participants, content and reason. The third group comprises supplementary components disclosing the author's overall estimation of the event and prospects of its development. Using these components as classification parameters, the author shows the possibilities of systematization of text material and identification of the typical and individualized linguistic representations of each of them. Through an example of a multidimensional component of the model – the content of the event – the author demonstrates the peculiarities of its objectification with the help of linguistic and graphic means, as well as video materials. The research material is represented by the media texts covering the domestic political event «The 2018 Russian presidential election» published on the official portals of Russian political parties and personal sites of individual politicians, including candidates for the presidency.
