The peculiarities of culture-bound terms in the novel “Eugene Onegin” by Alexander Pushkin and their translations from Russian into English

The article deals with translation methods to produce adequate translation from Russian into English of various culture-bound terms used in the verse novel “Eugene Onegin” written by A.S. Pushkin. It should be stressed that culture-bound terms provide national and cultural identity of the piece of writing. The article gives an analysis of culture-bound terms translation methods (geographic, ethnographic and socio-political) in translating the original text into English, the essence of each particular translation technique, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The illustrative examples are taken from the S. Mitchell and W. Arndt translations of the novel.
