Nouns with the Indo-European root (s)preg – in the Slavic book and Russian tradition of XI–XVII centuries (in comparison with Greek correspondences)

The article describes nouns that go back to the root *(s)preg-in Slavic-book and Russian tradition of the 11–17th centuries. The time of the first fixation is given and analyzed, the words are compared with the Greek correspondences. The involved sources have allowed, on the one hand, to verify the definitions of the studied Old Russian words in historical dictionaries, and on the other hand, to reveal their meaning more fully. The analysis has showed that the word супруг as the semantic and derivational calque of Greek σύ-ζῠγ-ος has presented in Old Slavonic manuscripts since the 10th century, and in Old Russian texts – since 11th century. The word пругло, also found in the texts since 11th century, has been out of use after the 16th century, while its synonym пружина in the language of 15–16th centuries does not gone out of use and by the end of 17–beginning of 18th century develops meanings preserved in the modern language.
