we consider the mythological image of a wolf in Altai heroic tales. The study of images of objects of the material world and the world of nature helps to study the religious beliefs, perspectives and trends in the development of the spiritual culture of a people. The image of each animal in the heroic tales of the Altaians, incorporates various effects of different periods, but their functional essence is based on their correlation to the poles of the world. A wolf in heroic tales acts in a different role: as a great powerful friend or a dangerous pest of domestic herds and sheep flocks.
