The ways of enriching the English vocabulary on the example of the words of “The Word of the Year” project by Oxford Dictionaries

The object of the research paper is the ways of enriching the English vocabulary, the subject is the ways by which the words involved in the project “The Word of the Year” according to the Oxford Dictionaries enriched the English vocabulary. The article is aimed at exploring the ways of enriching the vocabulary of 122 words of the project in the period from 2007 up to 2019. The methods utilized in the research are the method of continuous selection and the method of classification. The results of the study show that word-building dominates over borrowing and semantic change. The most frequent word-building types are composition, blending and affixation. The tables feature the results of the research.
