Translation of the verb «kiffer» in to russian

The purpose of this article is to study the implementation of the functional potential of the French verb «kiffer», as well as the features of its translation into Russian. The authors build their research based on the fundamental provisions of functional grammar, which postulates a complex and integrating approach, when the semantic categories of grammar and semantic functions that combine multi-level language tools are taken as a basis. The most important concepts are «function-potency» and «function-realization», which differ in their tasks. The first captures the ability of a unit of the language system to perform a specific purpose, while the second is the result of the functioning of this unit in interaction with its environment. The environment is the determining factor in the implementation of the functional potential of the verb: both the system-language and speech environment (context and speech situation) are taken into account. The analysis and interpretation of the language material allow us to make interesting observations about the features of the functioning of this verb in the media discourse in modern French. The range of situations in which the verb is used is extremely wide. The interpretation of semantic nuances implemented by the verb is of interest for the purpose of their subsequent transmission in the Russian language. The extralinguistic component, which delimits the semantic facets of the unit, is taken into account. The research is based on articles of the Central French press, in particular the newspaper «Le Figaro» for 2019. Publicistic discourse is the conductor of new trends in the actualization of colloquial units in speech, becoming a kind of platform for the functioning of the living layer of language and, as a result, for the evolution of the language system.
