Trade union organizations and the fight against illiteracy in the 1920s (on the example of the Yaroslavl region)

The purpose of the study is to study the role and importance of trade unions in the fight against illiteracy in the 20s of the last century using the example of the Yaroslavl region. Based on an analysis of archival sources and published statistics, the work of the Yaroslavl trade unions to combat illiteracy, which was carried out in the Soviet country at the initial stage of the cultural revolution, is examined. The organizational aspects of the eradication of illiteracy among workers organized in trade unions are revealed, organizational, financial, domestic and methodological difficulties in solving the problems of combating illiteracy at specific enterprises of Yaroslavl are revealed. Based on the results of the study, the author concluded that at the stage of the formation of a new type of state, trade unions played a significant role in assisting state bodies in combating the eradication of illiteracy. Theoretical and practical significance consists in summarizing the regional experience in combating illiteracy carried out by trade unions in one of the most industrially developed regions of the Non-Black Earth Region - Yaroslavl region.
