The concept of «term» and «academic term» in the language

The 21st century marks the great development in all areas, especially in education. In relation to that there is an active cooperation and the exchange of information among universities from all over the world in order to gain more knowledge and data for future discoveries. The essential communication process in education is held with the appliance of term systems of high education which includes the academic terms. Due to the fact that education and its term systems are continuously changing, new academic terms appear and interpreters and translators quite often face difficulties to translate texts of academic discourse. The linguistic terms as “science of terminology”, “terminology”, “term system”, “term” and “academic term” have been researched with the aim to collect common theoretical data that could be applied in further analysis of texts of both academic and other discourses in foreign languages. “Science of terminology” has been considered as a main linguistic unit of the language and analyzed with the view of its connection with other parts of language study. Moreover, the items “terminology” and “term system” have been examined and explained. Next linguistic items, such as “term” and “academic term” have been researched and their role, functions and the way of expression in the language have been described. As the theoretical base for this article, the works of Reformatorsky A., Ahrnold I., Buyanova L., Greenyov-Greenevitch S., Danilenko V., Lotte D., Leichiek V., Tatarinova V. have been used.
