Changes in the language: causes and consequences (based on the material of the english passive)

The article discusses changes in the language on the example of the English passive. the main question of the development of grammatical phenomena, which are influenced by both intra-linguistic and extra-linguistic factors, is revealed. It is noted that in different periods there are whole chains of factors that affect the development of grammatical phenomena. but in all this complex interweaving of factors, there are those that are particularly significant, those that determine the main development of the language. The paper presents an analysis of the combinations of beon and wesan with participle II to express the passive meaning, which was carried out on written monuments of the IX-XIV centuries.
