Implementation of the ways of expressing the category of negation in French: a comparative analysis

The article is devoted to the category of negation in modern French and the ways of its expression. The comparative analysis of the French novels by P. Lemaitre “Alex” and G. Musso “Seras-tu là?” and their translations into Russian, Italian and English allowed to reveal the ways of conveying certain negative constructions, as well as the similarities and the differences of their formation in these languages. The author consistently studies the morphological, syntactic and stylistic aspects of French negation. Considerable attention is paid to the issues of double negatives, the restrictive structure “ne…que”, the conjunction “ni… ni”, “ne explétif”, stylistically marked and colloquial forms of negation. The relevance of the research is due to insufficient knowledge of the problem of transferring the category of negation in languages of different structures. The scientific novelty lies in the implementation of the analysis of the ways of expressing the category of negation in four linguistic systems. In the concluding note, the results of the study are summarized and conclusions are drawn.
