The article is devoted to the problems of financing cultural-educational and political-educational work in Kabardino-Balkaria and in the North Caucasus as a whole in the first years of Soviet power. Life in the region after the end of the civil war in the conditions of the NEP took place in the conditions of an economic crisis and a lack of funds for cultural, political and educational work. The government during the NEP period tried to find a way out in the distribution of a kind of tax on enterprises and organizations, so that they would finance this work. After collectivization, part of the financing of this work was assigned to the collective farms. Part of the funds for the education system and cultural and educational work were collected from the population itself, using the already existing tradition of the local population to raise funds for the education of their children in mosques.
