А сommunicative тactic тhreatening the "face" of addressee – "face borrowing"

The article considers “face borrowing” as a communicative tactic and analyzes its main features in speech communication. Based on the analysis of dialogues from the Russian translation of V. A. Panasyuk of the Chinese classic novel A Dream of Red Mansions, the author proposes to divide thе communication tactic into two types – “face borrowing” in the presence of third communicants and “face borrowing” in the absence of third communicants. The research findings show that the successful use of this communication tactic depends on the relationship between the addressee, the addressee and the third communicants.
