Cataphoric ties of the word ‘thing’

This article analyzes the use of the word thing in a cataphoric function using examples from the Russian National Corpus. The use of adjectives with the word thing is considered here, which is typical for the expression of the author's assessment in relation to the referent. Typical constructions are noted: one thing and such thing as. The results of a quantitative analysis of the correlation of the word thing with concrete and abstract vocabulary as well as with groups of verbs are also provided here. The description of the possibilities of the word thing as a cataphoric marker contributes to the study of cataphora in Russian.
