All-russian words "chest" and "pozor" in the Arkhangelsk dialects

Yakovleva N. A.  (graduate student, Lomonosov Moscow State University)

The article examines the functioning in the Arkhangelsk dialects of all-Russian words denoting an assessment of human behavior by others – positive (chest’ – ‘honor’) and negative (pozor – ‘disgrace’). The material for the study was the data of the electronic database and the paper card index of the “Arkhangelsk Regional Dictionary”, created by the staff of the Russian Language Department of the Philological Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, as well as the author's personal field notes. The analysis showed that in the dialects under study the semantics of the words chest’ and pozor includes archaic components indicating a closer connection of these words with their etymons in the dialect language than in the literary language.
