Figurative means in the story "Olesya" A.I. Kuprin: functional aspect

This work is the first to consider the linguistic specificity and functional and stylistic properties of metaphor and other figurative means in the text of the story by A.I. Kuprin «Olesya». The main attention is paid to metaphor as the main style-forming means, the types of metaphors are characterized by their part-of-speech reference, their semantic and structural features are highlighted. The functions of the metaphor are defined. Metaphorical and metonymic epithets, personification and comparisons that convey the specifics of the metaphorical context are considered.
