Pragmatics of deixis in presidential speeches

The report deals with deixis in institutional political (presidential) discourse in a pragmatic aspect. Personal, temporal, spatial deixis is under consideration. The role of the deictic elements in interconnection and opposition inside each category, as well as its’ place in the structure of speeches, are analyzed. The functions of the possessive pronouns are pointed out. The ritual presidential speeches of 2019 and 2020 are compared by its’ pragmatic use. The realization of strategic pattern of us vs them through the use of deictic markers is presented.
