A new stage of development of the theory of rheetorical structure

The article is devoted to the issues of text theory related to the problems of machine translation and the generation of text as a coherent semantic whole. The purpose of this article is to give a brief analysis of the materials of Western linguistics in order to characterize that period. In the course of the study, the possibilities, limitations and ways of development of the Theory of Rhetorical Structure by scientists S. Thompson and W. Mann are analyzed, and he concludes that it is promising. The author notes that the theory created by W. Mann and S. Thompson helped to solve a number of issues that were associated with the rhetorical structure of the text. With the development of information technology, it became necessary to direct this theory to the creation of computer texts with the participation of the mentioned authors. Given that modern linguistics is closely related to information technology, this topic is very relevant for theoretical linguistics. In the course of the research, the comparative-descriptive method of linguistics was used. Analyzes of theoretical material within the framework of this study can be useful for further research in this direction. At the end of the article, the author concludes that the intentional structure is a reflection of the speaker's goals and is designed to achieve a change in the cognitive status of the addressee in a certain amount.
