The article is devoted to the study of the figurative speech of the population of the Nerchinsk mining district at the end of the XVIII century, the time associated with the activities of the outstanding head of the Nerchinsk mining plants, E. E. Barbot de Marni. The documents of the Nerchinsk mining expedition, in particular, the minutes of the meetings of the mining expedition and the courts, business and private correspondence, complaints of peasants and reports of officials, which represent the emotional colloquial speech of the inhabitants of this time with various epithets, figurative expressions, metaphors, are used as a source.
