Discourse tonality as the subject of linguistic analysis (by the case of the academic paper)

The paper puts forward the approach to analysing discourse tonality by the case of the academic paper. The author takes the main tenet of cultural lingistics on a language speaker being the culture bearer as the basis for the approach. Discourse semantics analysis as the information source about the culture norms necessitates drawing on the Systemic Functional Linguistics. The paper gives an overview of the exisiting interpretations of the textual category of tonality. The effective way of carrying out linguistic analysis of tonality of the academic paper genre is seen as the one by means of metadiscourse component.
