Specisics in translating the English GERUND into Russian in aviation-related texts

The article analyzes the specifics in translating the English gerund into Russian in aviation-related texts. For this purpose, the belonging of aviation texts to the scientific functional style is revealed and its linguistic features are considered. The main types of translation transformations are presented. The paper also gives the concept of gerund as a linguistic phenomenon and shows the major ways of its translation. The analysis reveals the dependence of the lexico-grammatical transformations applied in translation on syntactic functions of the gerund in the sentence.
