Cognitive experiment as a way to identify the universality of fragments of pictures of the world of native speakers of Russian and Chinese languages

The study aims to reveal the common in reflection of the PATRIOT concept elements in the minds of Russians and Chinese by conducting a cognitive experiment on recognition of some Russian phraseological units translated literally into Chinese. The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: a cognitive experiment on recognition of the phraseological representatives of the PATRIOT concept’s features has never been conducted with Chinese. The article presents the appearance of the "interlingual figurativeness" as a key to understanding Russian phraseological units by Chinese informants. Images encoded in the Russian idioms were successfully recognized by the Chinese informants in 50.1% of cases. There are 74.2% semantically similar idioms among all of the “successful” cases. The results of the research demonstrate the similarity of perception of the conceptual features of the PATRIOT concept imprinted in the Russian and Chinese worldviews.
