Toponymy as a science tells about the name of geographical objects, the study of which many researchers are engaged in to this day and discover all new originality of naming. Studying the names of objects and places helps to study the culture of the people, learn about its past, get acquainted with traditions and even beliefs. Since toponymy in the Chinese language is distinguished by a specific number of factors, such as: a variety of homographs, hieroglyphic writing, the presence of many dialects, etc., this topic seems to us very relevant. This article discusses the most famous editions of dictionaries of Chinese toponyms, examines their structure and highlights some of the features. The study cites factors that make it difficult to use previously published dictionaries, which tells us about the need to systematize the existing editions of domestic dictionaries of Chinese toponyms. The author of the article revealed the exceptional properties of compiling these dictionaries, and also made conclusions about the reasons for the difficulty of publishing them in Russian.
