The article deals with the issues of Russian-Polish intercultural interaction. The results of the cultural dialogue are analyzed on the example of the texts of the artistic culture of the XIX century. For example, Russian composers of the XIX century often turned to Polish musical motifs, using them in their compositions. The work of the Polish composer F. Chopin played a major role in the history of Russian music of the XIX century. The main emphasis in the article is on the semantic analysis of such Polish folk dances as mazurka and polonaise. These dances in the context of works of music and literature are interpreted not only as part of the aristocratic ballroom culture of Russia, but also as a reflection of the complex relationship between the characters. For example, the mazurka was a dance during which sincere confessions were made, the most intimate thoughts were expressed. But at the same time, against the background of the mazurka’s motive, a psychological conflict could also occur. Another Polish dance, which also received its understanding in the Russian classics, is the polonaise. In contrast to the mazurka, this dance was distinguished by greater pomp and solemnity. In works of literature and music it was used as a way to create a majestic and solemn atmosphere, setting off lyrical motifs. Thus, Polish dances in Russian works of art are represented not only as a part of dance culture, but also as a means of enhancing the emotional canvas of the dramaturgy of the work.
