Lexico-semantic features of the Irish version of English language

This article analyzes the features of the development of the national version of the English language functioning in Ireland. The authors of the article analyze the unique linguistic situation that has been developed in Ireland for many centuries, based on historical facts, and consider the prerequisites for the formation of Hiberno-English, which is a unique substratum of two languages – English and Gaelic. The article is devoted, first of all, to the formation of the vocabulary of the Anglo-Irish language, in the process of which there were semantic shifts in the meanings of English lexemes and the enrichment of the Hiberno-English lexicon due to borrowings from the Gaelic language. the authors of the article proved that the status of the Irish national version of the English language is due to its Celtic nature, which manifests itself, to a special extent, at the lexical level.
