The case control of the prepositions wegen, während, trotz, statt and dank in journalistic texts

This article is devoted to the study of case control of the German prepositions wegen, während, trotz, statt and dank in journalistic texts. The questions of the instability of case control of these prepositions is covered in detail. It is shown that in colloquial language prepositions are governed by both the genitive and the dative case. The paper analyses the newspaper DWDS data and the results allow us to conclude that these prepositions have the genitive case but in some cases they can change their case. The instability of the case control of prepositions occurs in paraphrases and in informal expressions. The author does not claim to give an exhaustive description of the case control of prepositions in German.
