Comparative analysis of phraseological units denoting alcoholic intoxication in English and Russian

Urazaev Marat Damirovich  (Postgraduate, Bashkir State University)

This article is devoted to the problem of contrasting the structure and semantics of Russian and English phraseological units with the meaning "inebriety». The scientific novelty of the research is due to the fact of the use of a comparative analysis of phraseological units verbalizing the concept of "inebriety" in the Russian and English languages. The relevance of this study lies in the identification of systemic similarities and differences in the languages of contrast, which is vital both for the theory of language in general and for linguistic typology and universals, in particular. The concept of semantic field is regarded as a language etalon; the deductive parameters for typological analysis being the semantic and formal structure of set phrases as well as their lexical composition and inner form. In addition, this comparative study of phraseological units provides rich material for the study of both languages and will be useful in the theory and practice of translation.

Keywords:inebriety, structure, semantics, typology, internal form, phraseological-semantic field.
