Characteristic Features of Military Science Terminology System as Mainly Applied / Fundamental (drawing on the English and Russian language material)

The article is devoted to the studying of the thematic features and derivational structures of terms in the applied / fundamental terminology system. The aim of the work is the analysis of main thematic and structural term groups of the spheres of military science as mainly applied / fundamental. Terminological units taken from printed issues and Internet sites have served as the research material. Special attention is paid by the author to the comparison of the military science terms and studying the peculiarities of each of the terminology systems in the English and Russian languages. Besides, the article studies the thematic features and derivative structures of terms belonging to the applied / fundamental terminology systems. The analysis of terms in the field of military science has proved the fact that the terminology systems in question are mainly applied, but has many features of fundamental ones. The military science terminology systems are characterized by the presence of productive terminological elements representing certain real objects: different kinds of military equipment, arms, elements, instruments, etc., that makes the case of the applied character of the terminology system, but there are also some features of the fundamental terminology system.
