Modern studies of terminology show that the term is associated with special vocabulary and professional communication and can move into terminology from the common language. The professionalism, in turn, belongs to a special vocabulary along with the term, but it can also become one in the absence of a terminological equivalent. The professionalism is regarded as jargon, argotism and vernacular vocabulary by a number of researchers. According to the classification of vocabulary by I.A. Sternin, the term and the professionalism are stylistic opposites. Foreign researchers, as a rule, do not share slang and jargon. In one of the works, there were found examples of slang units which became musical terms. Thus, professionalisms can come not only from colloquial expressions, but also from slang, and then become terms.
