This work is devoted to the problem of the paradigmatic organization of lexemes and sentences that reflect the semantics of "cry" with the help of expressive-figurative descriptive predicates (hereinafter, expressive-figurative OP). The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the semantic paradigm of sentences with expressive-figurative OP, semantically close to the verb "cry", in Chinese and Russian languages, to determine their similarities and differences. As a result of research using component analysis, the comparative method and the method of semantic-syntactic description, we have obtained the following conclusions: in Russian, most of the verbal components of expressive-figurative OP with the meaning "to cry" have Chinese equivalents, but there are also special cases: Chinese equivalents 灌溉 (irrigate) + 泪 (tears) don't mean "cry", and 缠 (to swell) + 泪 (tears) cannot be combined. The results obtained can help students avoid mistakes in the process of translation or communication.
Keywords:semantic paradigm, expressive-figurative descriptive predicates, verbal component, Russian language, Chinese language, similarity, difference.
