Genre and stylistic characteristics of the review

The second half of the XX century has outlined a new subject for disagreement: it is about the review in the culture of scientific communication. The question is not clear: having a serious history of formation, and being one of the most important elements of diagnosing the state of communication within the scientific community, in the modern digital world, it is important to revise the attitude to the review. In order to assess the depth of the task, first of all, it is necessary to understand the nature of the review. In this case, we cannot bypass one of its key characteristics – genre diversity. The article introduces the types of review, namely: review as a form of scientific communication or scientific writing, as an examination of academic dissertation research; as an experience in educational practice; examination as propaganda (using the example of Soviet historical periodics and literature), as well as, of course, about book reviews and reviews in the media sphere.
