Colour semantics in ekphrasis (based on the novel by S. King "Duma-Key")

This article identifies colour lexemes that function in the exphrasis of the English-language literary text. Colour is seen as a sociocultural phenomenon, a writer's tool used to reflect plot events. The appeal to colour issues in ekphrasis required the involvement of the following types of disciplines - literary criticism, psychology of perception, psycholinguistics. The article is dedicated, first of all, to the description of the semantic meanings of colour symbols in ekphrasis extracts, as well as to communicative-pragmatic analysis. The main ways of linguistic representation of colour in the horror novel are shown. The author makes an attempt to juxtapose the value of color with the development of the plot of the fiction.
