The concept "quantity" in the cognitive aspect

This article discusses the concept of "quantity" in the cognitive aspect. The relevance of this study is due to the fact that one of the tasks of modern cognitive linguistics is to identify the structure of human knowledge both about the surrounding world and about oneself, which is encoded in the language system. The purpose of this study is to determine the multi-level structure and essence of the concept of "quantity" in the cognitive aspect. Methods such as systematic literature review and content analysis were used; consideration of the concept in the language implementation on the basis of semantic community; construction of a functional-semantic field with the definition of a semantic core; cognitive interpretation; pragmatic interpretation of speech intentions. Fragments of materials in German acted as the object of research, however, materials in Russian, English and other languages that meet the established criteria can be used. It was found that quantitative characteristics are manifested through one or more points: the absence or presence of an object/subject/phenomenon; absence or presence of differences in descending or ascending order; absence or presence of singularity/multiplicity. It was revealed that when considering the concept of "quantity", it is the cognitive aspect that is of particular importance: the perception of quantity by a person is mainly formed on the basis of empirical experience, reflecting the results of the work of the senses. The data obtained contribute to the identification of the structure of human knowledge encoded in the language system both about the world around and about oneself.
