Pedagogical directives for the development of intercultural competence and all- Russian civil identity

Formation of intercultural competence as a personal quality is the basis for strengthening inter-ethnic relations in multicultural societies. The content and structure of the school subject «Geography» create conditions for transferring to students the necessary scientific knowledge of intercultural orientation and developing their skills in the inter-ethnic communication. Working with multiculrtural classes teacher needs to teach children peaceful social interaction with people of the other cultures and instill in them a sense of citizenship and unity of the Russian nation. The survey showed that teachers are aware of the importance of achieving these goals, but not all of them have sufficient professional competence and specific knowledge in the field of culture of the peoples of Russia and the world.
