The content and components of the cognitive-communicative approach to learning a foreign language in secondary school

The article examines the content of the cognitive-communicative approach to teaching a foreign language in secondary school. The cognitive-communicative approach is considered as a modification of the cognitive approach with the addition of its communication component. The cognitive-communicative approach owes its integral formation and development to the generalizing humanistic approach to teaching a foreign language, which appeared in the foreign methodology of foreign language teaching in the 60-70s of the twentieth century. This approach is characterized by a complete reorientation of the main focus of the entire process of foreign language learning from the personality of the teacher and the choice of teaching methods based on them to the personality of the student and the implementation of the appropriate choice of methodological tools.
